Teaching in a post pandemic era

Tips

We’ve titled this blog, ‘Teaching in a post pandemic era’ but we’re quite aware that the COVID-19 pandemic is still a huge issue around the world, and this is likely to be the case for quite some time.

TEFL teachers are still very much in demand, but COVID has brought great changes to the global market. So, if you’re wondering whether getting TEFL certified in the middle of a pandemic could be a waste of time and money, read on.

Where can I teach English abroad during COVID?

As many countries are still affected by travel restrictions, you’re probably wondering if there are destinations where it’s still possible for you to teach English as a foreign language.

At the time of writing (November 2021), many schools around the world are starting to reopen and hiring TEFL teachers to teach students in person.

South Korea, for example, has a programme called EPIK which is currently accepting applications to teach at prestigious public schools, with jobs starting in February 2022.

And if you fancy teaching English in China, you’ll be pleased to hear that there are many fantastic opportunities for graduates to teach English there at the moment. We recommend early application if there’s a particular region of China that you’d like to teach in.

Many countries in South America are struggling with some of the highest rates of COVID in the world, so we recommend putting your travels to these nations on hold for the time being.

However, if the idea of teaching English in Europe floats your boat, then you’re in luck. Many countries such as Spain and Poland are starting to reopen their schools and economies, hiring TEFL teachers who have negative COVID tests. Some European countries still require a quarantine period of 14 days, but we know that won’t put off our most enthusiastic applicants!

Worldwide demand for TEFL teachers has always been massive and this demand will continue to grow as the virus is brought under control. So, get yourself organised and book yourself on a TEFL course today.

How can I get TEFL certified during the pandemic?

You might not be feeling ready to travel yet, or perhaps the country you’d like to teach English as a foreign language in has still got strict travel restrictions. Whilst you’re waiting for times to become a little more certain, the best thing you can do is to get yourself prepared. Then you’ll be ready to go as soon as restrictions lift and you’re feeling less apprehensive.

The number one thing you should do to prepare yourself during this time is to get yourself TEFL certified. And this is easy to do, even during the COVID outbreak, as all of our TEFL courses are online.

We recommend our 120 hour TEFL course for most of our applicants, but if you’re unsure which course would be right for you, just email [email protected].

Requirements to teach English online

Are you not feeling quite ready to travel with the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic? Perhaps you’re a UK based teacher who’s sick of being stuck in the classroom in the usual 9-5, and you’re considering your options. Or maybe you’re just a homebody, and travelling the world isn’t really your bag.

Whatever the reason you’re considering teaching English online, trust us when we say it’s one of the best decisions you’ll make.

So, if you’re dreaming of that work-from-home life where smart trousers are optional, it’s important to note that you’ll need the basic qualifications to teach English online. These usually include TEFL certification and, in some cases, a bachelor’s degree.
