A global demand for TEFL teachers

TEFL

As the world gets back to some sort of ‘normality’ following the Covid-19 pandemic, the demand for TEFL teachers across the globe is continuing to rise. It’s estimated that there are approximately 1.5 billion people currently learning English as a second language – and you can take advantage of this by training to become a TEFL teacher.

Of course, there are some countries that continue to have travel restrictions due to the virus, with periods of self-isolation when you get there. It is definitely worth doing your research on the country you want to teach in before you get on the plane, so you know what you’re facing when you land.

It is still worth heading overseas to help people to learn English though, as Covid-19 has meant school closures across many countries, leading to a huge demand for TEFL teachers – as well as those online. Due to the flexibility and convenience of online learning, recent times have introduced people to new ways of working, with many choosing online learning for them to develop their English-speaking and writing skills.

As is the nature with TEFL teaching, a typical teacher will only stay in a post for up to two years before moving on to teach in another country or in another part of the country they are in. This means constant, revolving vacancies for TEFL teachers in the country of your choice – good news for you!

Vacancies

Here at TEFL UK we have a variety of vacancies available in a variety of countries – with more than 100,000 schools hiring for TEFL jobs every year. Brazil is currently one of the countries in high demand for English teachers, as a result of a boom in trade, tourism and business.

Cambodia’s job market is rapidly growing, resulting in an increased need for TEFL teachers, with China, Mexico and South Korea also in need.

Teaching English as a Foreign Language’s global industry is estimated to have a market value in the region of 200 billion US dollars, with more than 3 million students taking TEFL-related examinations each year.

Incredibly, approximately 400 million people in China alone are learning English, which is nearly a third of the population, with millions more Japanese also taking English classes every year.
