Requirements for teaching in Spain public schools

  • You must be a fluent English speaker from one of the following countries: Australia, Canada, Fiji, Malta, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Tonga, United Kingdom, United States of America, or Vanuatu
  • OR have a C2 English certificate (CEFR) or equivalent from one of the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Luxembourg, Norway, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Russia, Sweden, and Switzerland
  • Bachelor's degree in any major

Teach English in Spain with ConversaSpain

Experience Madrid or Murcia

ConversaSpain is a Spanish organisation that places English speakers in teaching positions in schools in Madrid and Murcia. This programme allows you to obtain significant international experience and earn money while experiencing lively Spanish culture. You'll be working as an Auxiliares de Conversacion, with the regional government managing your school and placement contacts. You will not be in charge of full classrooms as an Auxiliare de Conversacion, and you will not be responsible for grading or discipline. As a Language Assistant, you'll work closely with your local co-teacher to develop a solid teaching partnership.

    Spanish language knowledge is not required as classes are English immersion. Although it is not necessary to learn Spanish in order to teach English in Spain, it will surely come in handy outside of the classroom!

    The hours of Spanish school vary every school, however there are two main timetables. Some schools have a 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule, with a two-hour lunch break between 1 and 3 p.m. Other schools start at 9 a.m. and finish at 2 p.m., which is the customary Spanish luncheon.

    There is no set dress code for teaching English in Spain. Regardless, most instructors dress professionally for work, whether it's in smart button-down shirts and dark trousers or leggings, a skirt, and a blouse.

    Participants teach English to kids in Spain's elementary, middle, and high schools in a variety of locations. The tasks and activities of teaching will change from day to day, but it is a supportive position. You will teach reading, writing, listening, and speaking to students at various levels. To engage students and provide interesting, instructive lessons, you will use elements from your own culture.

    Yes, you will work with local Spanish teachers when you teach English in Spain. Your role will be to assist other teachers with anything they may require. This includes anything from test help to discussing ideas, as well as analysing a student's requirements and introducing new concepts to the curriculum.
