Teach English Online Without Experience
• Tips
Not everyone who wants to teach English as a foreign language (TEFL) is interested in travelling the world. If you’re more of a homebody, there are plenty of opportunities out there to teach English online.
There are lots of platforms that allow you to make a decent wage teaching English online, where you’ll also have control over your teaching schedule, and you’ll get to work from the comfort of your own home.
The majority of these platforms require that you have a bachelor’s degree in order to teach, and TEFL certification is nearly always essential or preferred. However, actual teaching experience is usually not necessary.
Teach English online without a degree or experience
If you’re looking to teach English as a foreign language to students worldwide and don’t have a bachelor’s degree, check out the online teaching platform SkimaTalk.
You won’t need any experience to TEFL on SkimaTalk, and the platform is open to any adult, native English speakers who complete SkimaTalk’s application test.
However, TEFL UK recommend that you get yourself TEFL certified before applying, as it will make the whole experience much more straightforward.
Once your profile is approved, you’ll deliver 25-minute lessons to students, who are usually adults. You can choose to use the teaching materials provided or create your own lesson plans.
After each lesson, your students will rate you for your teaching skills, reliability, and punctuality.
You can set your own hours and rates of pay, and SkimaTalk will take a 20 percent cut.
Teach English online with a degree but without experience
If you have a degree but no teaching experience and you’d like to teach English online, take a look at the QKids website.
You’ll teach between one and four Chinese children at a time, between the ages of four and twelve. The virtual classroom uses characters, stories and interactive games to complement your teaching.
You won’t need any teaching experience to get started with QKids, but you will need both a degree and TEFL certification.
Basic pay is $16 USD/hour (around £11.50/hour) and you’ll get bonuses based on your attendance, punctuality and reviews.
Teach English online with a degree and teaching experience
If you have both a bachelor’s degree and teaching experience, your range of options to teach English online will be much wider. Just get yourself TEFL certified, and you’ll be well on your way to earning a decent wage.
